Mahanagar Cruise

A city tour of Kolkata by the River. A river cruise on Hugli with commentary about the Kolkata Ghats as you sail by and guided shore excursions to Belur Math and Botanical Gardens

Mahanagar cruise will be a sail down the memory lane, from the time when Job Charnock dropped his first anchor at Cossim Bazzar to the modern monolithic bridge, which we call as Vivekananda setu, the second Hooghly bridge. It will sail under the magnificent bridge which hallmarks the city of Kolkata, the Howrah bridge. Early morning is the time when the ghat become alive with activities masseurs, bathers, rituals, ferries carrying office goers between the two banks, boats carrying goods, the fishermen throwing their nets around.

Besides some of the very old landmarks from the days of the Raj, there are numerous ghats which tell us of Kolkata's past and present life. Princep Ghat, Gwalior ghat, outram ghat, kashi mitter ghat to name a few.

The cruise will have two shore excursions One Belur Math and Botanical gardens. Both are landmarks in themselves and a visit to them is must to a tourist. By waterways it is more convenient, relaxing, no traffic jams, no pollution and one would really have the feel of the growth of the city. We will be adding many more choice of shore sights like Dakshineswar, Sova bazaar, Kumartolli ghat famous for Idols making for traditional hindu festivals once infrastructure for embarkation comes into place.

The cruise will have a live commentary narrating the history of the ghats and a guide for the shore excursions. The Traditional Bengali Lunch is all planned by Mr. Pradip Rasorio, a celebrity chef having a chain of restaurants in Kolkata.
